Ceramic Butterfly Mug Common Buckeye on Amethyst MG0064.
I created the mug by throwing it on the potter's wheel, then trimmed the bottom and added the handle. This mug has two Common Buckeye butterflies glazed on the exterior. The process that I used is called stencilling and I created the stencil from a butterfly photograph. The black glaze outline was stenciled and I handpainted the colors with ceramic underglazes. Then three coats of clear glaze.
- This mug will hold approximately 11 ounces if filled to the brim.
- 100% handmade by me using soft white stoneware clay. Fired to a high temperature for added durability for everyday use.
- Both the clay and glazes that I use are non-toxic and foodsafe.
- This mug will be ok for the microwave as well as the dishwasher.
- If the actual shipping charges end up being less than the amount quoted in this listing, I refund the difference to you.
- Please allow 4-6 weeks for shipment to be made. This is a made to order mug.
I love to make mugs. I love the way a warm mug of coffee or tea feels in my hands. I think handles are so important, I've purchased some beautiful mugs but the handles are positioned so close to the mug that I burn my fingers whenever I try to pick up the hot cup. For this very reason I make sure that with all of my mugs are created to ensure a safe and pleasurable drinking experience. A lot of thought must go into trying to make the perfect mug. The feel of the lip has to be smooth. And let's not forget how the mug looks. The surface treatment must be special. If it's a mug that you take to work with you, it's one that you'll be looking at every day of your work week. It can brighten your space, especially if you don't have a lot of room for desk accessories. So as a mug-maker I feel that I have a responsibility to the world. Let me share my mugs with you!
