Ceramic Teapot Ready to Ship Handmade Wheel Thrown Stoneware Fish Goldfish Veil Tail TPT0008

Ceramic Teapot Ready to Ship Handmade Wheel Thrown Stoneware Fish Goldfish Veil Tail TPT0008

One of my favorite things to create out of clay are teapots. More specifically fish teapots. My teapots have evolved over the years and this teapot the Veil Tail Goldfish, is a well-traveled teapot. She was part of an invitational teapot show in Virginia. She's back home to me now and I'm sharing her with you.

Made from soft stoneware clay, I throw two components on the potters wheel, a hollow ring and a base. I wait for the two pieces to stiffen up a bit and then I join them together. I start cutting out and adding slabs and coils and eventually she becomes a fish. The clay that I use is non-toxic, but because I make her lips so luscious, she's a bit of a drooler. Also not good for the microwave because of the metal eyelashes and embellishments that I add. She is relegated to be a decorative piece, collectible. I use non-toxic glazes as well, which makes her safe to be around and handle. She's been fired in a pottery kiln twice, but the fun doesn't stop there, I add whimsical wires and I created color coordinated polymer clay beads to help complete her look.

Veil Tail measures 9.25" in height (not including wire and beads) 10" in length and 7" in depth.
